Indoor Air Quality Los Angeles: 5 Common Indoor Allergy Triggers & How to Avoid Them
Studies show that the air in our homes is more polluted than the air outdoors. If you suffer from year-round allergies, the source may well be in your own home. You can learn how to increase the indoor air quality in your Los Angeles home and identify indoor allergy triggers by reading the following tips.
Indoor Allergy Triggers
- Dust is the no. 1 pollutant in many homes. Common sources of dust include decaying insects, dirt and debris from plants, food, fibers, pet dander and skin. To get rid of dust, vacuum often, dust with a damp cloth and change the air filter in your HVAC system often.
- Dust mites are microscopic insects that inhabit our homes, proliferating in areas with high humidity. Their droppings can cause allergic reactions, which you can prevent by changing linens frequently and washing them in hot water. Also, make sure to vacuum mattresses and carpets with a HEPA (high efficiency particulate air) filter.
- Pet dander is an allergen found in the skin, saliva and urine of cats and dogs and is best controlled by frequent vacuuming and mopping. You can also try to keep your pets off of your furniture and beds.
- Cockroach debris can cause severe allergic reactions in sensitive individuals. It’s important to call a pest control professional to get rid of these insects, and then clean your home thoroughly.
- Mold flourishes in damp areas, such as your bathroom or kitchen. Make sure to fix any leaks from faucets or pipes and to clean your shower curtain regularly. If you don’t have ventilation that exhausts outdoors, turn on a fan for circulation. Contact us to improve the indoor air quality in your Los Angeles home.
