Supporting the Boys & Girls Club of Mount Vernon
In 2017, while visiting another HVAC company in Mount Vernon, NY, owners Bob and Tony Helbing were encouraged to offer their support to the community there. What better way than with the Boys and Girls Club of Mount Vernon?
The Boys Club of Mount Vernon opened in 1912 to accommodate the growing social programs and lack of organized facilities serving youth in the City of Mount Vernon, NY. It was started to meet the social and recreational needs of underserved immigrant boys playing and living their lives in the city streets of Mount Vernon.
Academy-Award winner Denzel Washington—star of blockbuster films such as Training Day, Philadelphia, Malcolm X, and Crimson Tide, and director of Antwone Fisher—grew up in the Boys & Girls Club of Mount Vernon. While several childhood friends ended up in prison, Washington chose a different path, and he credits the Club as being a steadying influence during tough times. Washington’s support is rooted in powerful, personal experience. About his experience, Denzel states,
“Everything you’ve seen or heard about me began with lessons I learned to live by at the Club.”
Air-Tro is proud to support the Boys and Girls Club of Mount Vernon in addition to our local community.
